It feels like we are getting slowly back on track: it's been less than a month, and we already have some news for you!!!

As you can see on the picture above, Loïc has two cute tiny little teeth that just popped out of his lower jaw. It is absolutely adorable and it makes him completely irresistible when he smiles.

And wait, there is more... but we are saving it for the next post ;-)

Yes we are back! Just in time to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving…

This has been such a great year for us. We were blessed with a healthy and happy baby and we are forever thankful for having such loving families and amazing friends. We feel so lucky that we were able to share with so many people these very exciting first months of Loïc’s life.

So much has happened since our last full blown picture update - and we have so many new ones to share - that we decided to travel back in time, and give you a brief summary and photo tour of the past 5 months. We’ll start with the most recent events and then go back from there…

We hope you will enjoy our update and we are looking forward to reading your comments. Oh, and we promise we’ll do our best to never take this long again to get in touch and send more news.

Much Love,
Eric, Renata & Loïc

Time has been flying and our little man has just completed 6 months yesterday! He has grown so much, and has been developing such a great personality. He is very smiley; he talks a lot, makes plenty of funny faces and loves to eat. He hasn’t had any wine yet, but he’s been sure trying to grab those goblets. And who would ever guess, he is fascinated by computers. No mistake, he is definitely our baby!!! ;P

When fall rolled in, mommy went back to work (two days a week), which meant Loïc started spending a whole entire day a week with daddy, doing fun things like going to swimming class, rolling around the house, playing with his toys. He also got to spend full days just with his Thata (Tia Thais) who is a master on making him laugh. But mommy still gets to spend plenty of time with him, playing, reading, and enjoying his daily baths. Now our Lolo is also finally getting what he’s been asking for a long time: real food!! He loves holding his spoon(s), and his bowl! He became an eating machine… By the way, his favorite food is sweet potatoes, which he started eating this week – just in time to enjoy today’s menu.

At the beginning of November Thata went back to Brazil to renew her visa, so we miss her a lot!!! But before leaving, she enjoyed her first pumpkin carving party with us and went with Daddy to get our “Bat Baby” his Halloween outfit, so he could match mommy’s…

Our summer was super eventful with Loïc’s first Soccer World Cup and the many sunny days in San Francisco. The Brazil x France game was a hot ticket here and the nice weather allowed for Papa Eric’s band to perform their first outdoors public jam session. It was awesome! The sun was shinning so strong that we even made it to the beach with Vovó Marina. In June Loïc signed his first “Happy Father’s Day” card, and in July we went to Boston, when our little man enjoyed his first airplane trip on the way to his first SIGGRAPH.

While Loic was completing his first trimester outside the womb, we found out that there was a little cousin (the first on mommy’s side) enjoying her first trimester inside tia Val’s comfy belly… Yes! Tio Deco and Tia Val are expecting a little girl! Hooray! Congratulations! We are so excited… Here is one of little cousin’s first pictures:

In the middle of August we headed to Europe for a month of indulgence. It was so nice to spend time at Le Belvedere relaxing and enjoying the best food, wine and champagne with family and friends!! Mamy Brigitte & Papy Bernard definitely know how to spoil the three of us.

From the south of France we went to Paris. It was great to enjoy our dear friends there and all the city has to offer on those perfect end of summer days. Loïc had his first afternoon at the Jardin du Luxemburg, his first visit to Montmartre and the ultimate experience: his first day at the Musee du Louvre. He loved it! He sure enjoyed some of the paintings but the bronze statues and the Egyptian sections were clearly his favorites.

After Paris we went on a one week road trip in Italy. We drove from Le Belvedere in the South of France all the way to Rome. We explored the exquisite Cinque Terre by boat, fell in love with the rolling hills of Tuscany and got all freaked out climbing the Pisa Tower. We spent a day in Florence and headed to Rome. Loïc behaved really well during his visit to the Vatican and even got to touch St. Peter’s feet. Carrying his stroller up and down the old Rome was a bit of a workout, but the refreshing fountains came to save the day! The little man is a natural traveler and, as you will see in the pictures, he was very helpful when it came to reading guides and maps… At the end of that week we returned to France by ferry boat bringing our car on board.

Here we are in the south of France, and "Papy" and "Mamy" (Grandpa and Grandma) finally had a chance to meet Loïc! As you can see they are completely "gaga"...

We spent the first four days with aunt Agnès, uncle Javi, and cousins Joël and Maria. The Tabellion clan was at last reunited after a long year since the wedding. Also we have been fortunate to have many friends visit already and enjoy the sun and the "mistral" (wind typical of south of France) by the pool.

Believe it or not Loïc is already 3 months old! And a lot has happened since our last update… The most import of all: Loic’s hair grew back! Also, he has learned a few new words in addition to “Buaaaah”!! Now he says things such as “Ahgu”, “Ahoo”, “Ooaaah” and our all time favorite, “Aai” Daddy has lots of long conversations with him in the morning before going to work… He can also grab (not just spank) his toys and is starting to suck his own hands – soon we are sure we’ll find the thumb. Such a lucky happy child!

Loïc is already one month old... Happy Monthaversary!!! He is almost a grown up now with his 54 cm height. He is doing more crying now, but he also smiles a lot, and fills our hearts with happiness. His umbilical cord fell and... we've got an innie! Now we can give him real baths. We've had plenty of visitors coming by, including Renata's family and Nathania & Rick. Loïc met Xylia, it was his first time with a girl only 6 times his age. At home Loïc is starting to play with his toys when he is not playing his favorite game: "Pick-a-Boob". When the weather is nice we bring him out for strolls in the park. Everyone is completely "gaga" around Loïc (including total strangers). To see photos of his first month, click on the link below:

Today was vovó Marina's birthday! It was also the gay pride day, so to celebrate we all went on a stroll to see the parade before heading out for brunch at the cliff house. To see the photos, click on the link below:

Pretty soon we'll be visiting papy & mamy (grandpa & grandma) in France, so we started working on passport pictures for Loïc. We're not quite sure the department of homeland security will accept any of those, but at least we tried.

Uncles and Aunties came to visit this month and we had a big party to celebrate their birthdays (all of Renata's siblings and mom have their birthdays in June, a few days apart from each other). Loïc had fun with everyone and we all ate plenty of chocolate cake and brigadeiros (chocolate truffles from Brazil). To see the photos, click on the link below:

Loïc has been an angel throughout his first week. He barely cries and sleeps quite a bit, giving Dad & Mom some sleep. Daddy also learned a few swaddling tricks to get Baby calm and relaxed within minutes on those fussy little moments. Based on popular demand, here are some more picture of our lil' one. Click on the link below to see them:

After two days at the hospital, we finally got to go home. Loïc got his first "steps" outside and his first car ride. Getting home was such a comforting feeling and we showed Loïc around and introduced him to his new plush friends. Click below for some pictures of our third day:

Our second day was pretty exciting. We had more visitors come by and Loïc got to do some funny hearing tests. He also slept a lot throughout the day, but it's okay because he is soooo cute even when he sleeps. Click below for some pictures of our second day:

On his first day, Loïc woke up next to mommy and daddy. We can't stop looking at him and cuddling with him. He is just so cute... Having a baby is such a wonderful indescribable feeling... We went to the nursery for his first bath and to see the pediatrician. Later he got to meet vovó Marina and vovô Sergio for the first time. Click below to see the pictures of our first day:

Hello... my name is "Loïc de Ulhoa Tabellion" (Loïc is pronounced Lo-eek). I was born on May 22nd at 23h54 after a very fast labor of less than three hours and one single push. I weight 3.32 kg (7.5 lbs), and measure 52 cm from head to toe. Mom & Dad and tia Thais are really happy and releived to see me... they really lived the most intense and crazy moment of their lives. Click below to see pictures of the birth:

Thursday, May 25, 2006

That's it! It's Monday May 22nd at 9 pm, and labor is finally kicking in! Renata is eating a light pasta dinner between contractions. It is becoming more and more intense and we are about to go to the hospital... Stay tuned, the next post will have baby pictures for sure!!!

Monday, May 22, 2006

The baby is not here yet. Of course, with the Brazilian blood, he had to be fashionably late... Meanwhile, the Doctor recommends plenty of walking to help him find his way out. So we went with tia Thais and vó Marina for a touristy "hike" to Fisherman's Wharf. Click on the link below to see the photos:

Vovô (Grampa) Sergio is here! He made in time to see in person his first grandbelly. Doesn't it look just like his?

Vovo (Grandma) Marina is here too! And her suitcase came filled with the cutest gifts sent by our loved and missed friends in Brazil. Muito obrigado a todos!

Monday, May 15, 2006

Today I took a sick day thinking the baby was coming. We ended up going to the park and to the beach to relax and help Renata through the few contractions she had throughout the day. The baby is still inside as of this hour. Click on the link below to see the photos:

Here is my favorite cook in action. Renata is preparing a lovely dinner, while being 8 months and 14/16th pregnant. She is definitely the BIG-belly champion of the house: it's amazing what she can do while being inches from delivery. She is full of energy and her activites include but are not limited to: yoga, water aerobics, and getting ready for the birth.

She's having more and more contractions and cramps that are somewhat telling us that the delivery day is getting closer and closer. Who knows, our next post might well be a picture of the Baby. Send her your best wishes of support and... Stay tuned...

Here I am, pretending to read my favorite book, and trying to catch-up on my sleep in advance, before the baby arrives. I only have 162 pages to go before birth... which should be any minute now... It doesn't look like it on the picture, but... I'm EXCITED!!!

You probably noticed on the belly series, but Thais is back with us, coming from Tahoe, via New Zealand. She is helping us a great deal and spends a lot of time talking to huge-melon. She also spends a lot of time on Orkut ;-)

Thais can't get over the idea that Renata will deliver. For her, "delivery" applies to pizzas, not to babies.

Belly... belly... and more round belly... Enjoy this nice series of belly pictures:

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

Did we mention before that our due date is May 19th 2006 ? Well it's getting closer so I don't miss a single opportunity to take a picture of Renata's belly. Here is a good one :-)

Sunday, April 16, 2006

It's starting to feel like we're having a baby now. The furniture is in place, the baby's clothes are in the drawers, and the little animal friends sent by oncles and aunties are impatiently waiting for him. Beleive it or not, we also made the mobile on the wall from scratch to decorate his little corner.

Our co-ed "baby-shower" just happened yesterday and we had a blast, celebrating the upcoming arrival of our baby.

Getting rounder by the minute! This marks the official graduation to watermelon.

Daddy is getting ready to carry him for the next nine months...

Let's try that outfit again... but this time, for real!
See our earlier trial below in our December 20th post.

Is it true what they say about parenthood and loosing your freedom ? Nah! I don't beleive it... In fact it can be quite fun to do things like assembling the crib. Click here for some more photos:

Our big melon needs a jump-start this morning :-)

Wondering where growing Melon will sleep when he leaves my cozy tummy? Well, we will have a mini co-sleeper bed for him in our room for the first three months, so we don't have to get out of bed in the middle of the night to feed him. Still, we want him to take his naps in his own room during the day. So, last week after browsing through dozens of options, and taking tons of measurments to make sure it would fit in his room, we chose his "crib sweet crib".

Yep. The belly is definitely growing and popping out of my clothes... and we love it!!! :)
Oh, and, btw, talking about clothes... although Eric prefers posting my biquini pictures, I still wear a bit more fabric once in a while.

Here is a before and after comparison. The image on the left was taken week 17 and the image on the right was taken week 31. BIG difference... But wait... there is more to come...

We are also making a video to see the progression. Right-click on the link below and choose "Save Link As..." (size = 1.7Mb):

We got yet another ultra-sound at week 29, just to make sure everything is OK. We couldn't resist to share this nice series of photos with you. Click on the link below:

Renata's belly button is undergoing some transformation due to the stretch of the belly. I'm showing it to you before it flattens or "pops" out.

Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Such a happy and smily baby already... nice and warm inside mommy's cozy belly.

Do I look like daddy or what?!?! Amazing what a 3D-ultrasound can show...

Saturday, February 25, 2006

We are now entering the third trimester (week 28). It's only three weeks after the last belly picture, and it's already doubled in size... It is growing faster every day, it's unbelievable. Soon I will need to take the picture horizontally, otherwise the belly won't fit in the frame anymore.

When you put your hand on the belly, you can feel the baby's presence. He is really kicking and rolling now and sometimes you can even see it. He also hiccups quite frequently and you can feel that too.

Renata is playing with her new gift. I got her a sthetoscope so she can try to hear the baby's heartbeat too (and other funky noises).

Wednesday, February 15, 2006

Ah! Now here is the real doctor. He is performing a "utrasoun" procedure, which involves caressing the mother's belly with a probe until the baby moves.

We've recorded the baby's movements in his 26th week. Check out the video link below, there is even a 3D-scan at the end. Right-click on the link below and choose "Save Link As..." (size = 37Mb):

Thais is playing doctor with Renata's belly. She is about to perform a "gouzi-gouzi" procedure, which involved tickling the belly-button until the baby moves.

Thursday, February 02, 2006

One of these pictures was taken on December 18th (week 19), and the other was taken February 1st (week 25)... Can you tell which one is which now? Finally!...

25th week of pregnancy: Renata’s uterus has grown quite a bit. When you look at these side views, she’s obviously getting bigger. The measurement from the pubic symphysis to the top of her uterus is about 10 inches (25cm), and the top of the uterus is about halfway between her bellybutton and the lower part of her sternum. In other words, her uterus is about the size of a soccer ball.

Little Melon now weighs about 1.5 pounds (700g), and his crown-to-rump (head to butt) length is about 8.8 inches (22cm). He might be graduating to Watermelon soon. The structures of his spine - 33 rings, 150 joints and 1000 ligaments – are beginning to form. He can now open and close his hands. The blood vessels of his lungs are developing and his nostrils are beginning to open. Busy week!

Now our baby can hear and may be able to recognize our voices (and Renata’s stomach noises). Some experts think it may be beneficial to sing or play music to him – Well, I guess it depends on who is singing... :-)

The belly is getting pretty big, but Renata's weight is well on track: check out her curves...

Hmmm... I don't remember... was this picture taken right after dinner?... Oh yeah! And we definitely had desert that night!!

Now I can actually hear the baby's heart-beat if I put my ear on her belly! It's amazing!!! Renata wish she had a stetoscope so she could hear it too...

Renata is really serious about keeping a tab on everything she eats. Our baby is getting his daily 100% nutritive love per serving.

Wednesday, February 01, 2006

We have started 2006 with a good new-years resolution: continue to exercise and eat healthy... I mean Renata is... Well, me too... sort of...

Sunday, January 08, 2006

Happy New Year from the two and 1/2 of us!!! We wish you all the best for 2006.

Sunday, December 25, 2005

Here is the best present we could wish for this Christmas... We feel so blessed!

Ah!... no doctor's explanation needed... It was a pillow to allow Renata to try her new pregnancy outfit...

Tuesday, December 20, 2005

Renata just got very round all of a sudden. We don't really understand how?!?! The doctors are all confused and say it's the first time they've seen this happen... Well the important part is that baby is healthy and mommy is smiling...

Monday, December 19, 2005

Look at this... Little Melon is actually... a baby!!! This is his picture at 16 weeks. Isn't he the cutest thing you've ever seen? You can also see him move if you download the video from our December 6th post.

Thursday, December 15, 2005

Oh my... I think... I think I just felt a kick... I think he kicked mommy!!! Or was it a punch ?!?!? I felt a pop in my belly... and then... and then it popped again... :)

Saturday, December 10, 2005

Ah... our little melon just popped again. He came to say coucou. As you can imagine, daddy is starting to talk to petit-melon in a strange language, with lots of dadada and gouzigouzigouzi...

I think he is ready for christmas... Of course, we got a tree about his size so he wouldn't feel left out. And yes... our apartment is naturally heated... that way Renata can wear her bikini even in winter.

No, Renata is not a contortionist to the point where she can put her face next to her belly. It is tia Thais who just arrived yesterday from Brazil. She thinks little melon is fascinating!

One of these pictures was taken on September 29th (week 7), and the other was taken December 6th (week 17)... Can you tell which one is which ? ... oh and euh... where did the melon go ?!?!

Her food cravings are kicking up, but she hasn't made it yet to swallowing a whole melon... or did she ? -- picture taken December 4th.

Tuesday, December 06, 2005

Last friday... We just found out... IT'S A BOY!!!
Luckily we have the moment of our discovery on video. Right-click on the link below and choose "Save Link As..." (size = 30Mb):

Make sure to listen to the sound-track... it's pretty funny... You'll be able to see the baby move too. Soooooo cute!

Mama tabellion feels big today... The belly is finally starting to grow to the point were we can see it... I assure you, we can totally see the difference... OK, maybe you just need new contact lenses :-)

This is our second ultra-sound. It was taken at week 12, and you can see how much the baby grew in four weeks!!! It is now aproximately 7.76 cm. Amazing!!!

Here is the ultrasound of our peanut-baby at week 8. From head to toe it measures about 2 cm... uh sorry, that's about less than an one inch.

Welcome to our first blog ever...

We've decided to try out blogging. We have the perfect excuse, since this blog is to inform you about us and our ongoing pregnancy. If you don't know yet... yes!, we are expecting, and are 3.5 months into pregnancy. This is very exciting!!! Here I write "we" because Eric is also suffering from a growing belly.

Renata and I will post upcoming photos, videos, belly-curves, kicking contests, etc.
